What is a sworn Turkish translation?

A sworn Turkish translation is an official translation between Dutch and Turkish made by a translator who has been sworn in by a Dutch court and listed in the Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). The translator binds a signed statement, an official stamp and a signature to a copy of your document, which is what lets Dutch authorities such as the IND, your municipality, the courts and universities treat it as the official version.

What is the difference between a certified and a sworn translation?

In the Netherlands the two terms describe the same thing. A certified translation here means a sworn translation: one produced by a court-sworn, Rbtv-registered translator who attaches a signed statement and an official stamp. In some other countries a certified translation can be a simple signed declaration without that legal standing, so when a Dutch authority asks for a certified translation it means the sworn version.

If you are sending a document abroad, check with the receiving authority whether they need the sworn translation legalised with an apostille as well.

How much does a sworn Turkish translation cost?

A sworn Turkish translation costs from €67 for the first page, with each following page at €75. That base price covers the translation, the sworn statement, the official stamp and our acceptance guarantee. A digital copy (PDF by e-mail) is an optional add-on for €9.95, and registered shipping within the Netherlands is €9.95, free from €299. Standard delivery is 5 to 7 working days, with express available as an option.

Sworn Turkish translations — where and why they are used

Turkish is the official language of Turkey, with around 80 million speakers, plus large communities in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Belgium. Demand for sworn Turkish translations from the Netherlands is steadily high: marriages between Dutch and Turkish partners, property purchases along the Turkish Riviera (Antalya, Bodrum), inheritance matters involving Turkish family, and commercial contracts with Turkish partners.

Turkey has been part of the Hague Apostille Convention since 1985, so the standard route — Dutch original plus apostille plus sworn Turkish translation — works for every Turkish authority. One specific point: since 2018 the Turkish authorities apply a notarial-approval system strictly, so the sworn translation has to be confirmed ("onaylı") by a Turkish notary before some bodies — particularly the Tapu land registry — will accept it.

A second point is historical. Turkey adopted the Latin alphabet in 1928 in place of the Arabic script of Ottoman Turkish. For modern documents this is irrelevant, but older papers — say, from between 1900 and 1928 — may need an additional palaeographic translation, which we provide on request through a specialist translator.

Common use cases

  • Turkish land registry (Tapu) — property purchase in Antalya or Bodrum
  • Turkish registry office (Nüfus) — marriage registration
  • Turkish inheritance procedure — Veraset İlamı
  • Trade registry (Ticaret Sicili) — Dutch BV branch in Turkey
  • Turkish social security (SGK) — Dutch employment history

Frequently asked questions: Turkish translation

What is a sworn Turkish translation?
A sworn Turkish translation is made by a translator sworn before a Dutch court and entered in the Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). It carries the translator's signed statement and official stamp, which is why Dutch authorities accept it as an official translation between Dutch and Turkish.
Is a sworn translator the same as a certified translator?
In the Netherlands the official term is sworn (beëdigd) translator, registered in the Rbtv. Certified translation is the English label international clients use for the same thing, so for Dutch use they amount to the same document. What matters is the Rbtv registration for the Dutch–Turkish pair.
Who can make a certified Dutch–Turkish translation?
Only a translator sworn before a Dutch court and listed in the Rbtv, the register kept by Bureau Wbtv, for the Dutch–Turkish pair. We work with Rbtv-registered Turkish translators, so the translation meets the requirement of the authority that asked for it.
How much does a sworn Turkish translation cost?
A sworn Dutch–Turkish translation is €67 for the first page and €75 per following page. That price covers the translation, the sworn statement, the official stamp and the acceptance guarantee. A digital copy (€9.95), registered shipping (€9.95, free from €299, Netherlands only) and an apostille (€99 per document) are optional.
Do I need a sworn Turkish translation for the IND?
The IND requires foreign-language documents in a residence or naturalisation application to be translated by a sworn (Rbtv) translator into Dutch, English, French or German. A sworn Dutch–Turkish translation meets that requirement, backed by our acceptance guarantee that the result will be accepted.
How long does a sworn Turkish translation take?
Standard delivery is 5–7 working days. If you need it sooner, express delivery (2–3 working days) is available as an option for a surcharge of 50%, with a minimum of €55. Same-day delivery applies to Dutch ↔ English and French only, so it is not available for Turkish.
Do I also need an apostille for use in Türkiye?
Often, yes. Türkiye and the Netherlands are both parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, so for use in Türkiye your document, and sometimes the translation, may need an apostille rather than fuller legalisation. The order depends on the receiving authority. We can add the apostille for €99 per document.
Can you translate from Turkish to Dutch as well as Dutch to Turkish?
Yes. We translate in both directions: a Turkish document into Dutch for use with a gemeente, the IND or a court here, or a Dutch document into Turkish for use with an authority in Türkiye. You choose the direction in the order form and receive a fixed quote before you confirm.
